      <image:title>About</image:title>
<image:caption>I am originally from Virginia and have lived in the Boone area* for 12 years; these mountains are special and I feel lucky to call them home. I entered the counseling field because I love connecting with other humans, hearing their stories, and helping them feel truly seen and supported while offering new perspectives when they feel stuck. I genuinely feel honored to do this work. I earned my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, along with a Certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy, from Appalachian State University in 2014. I worked as a Staff Counselor at the ASU Counseling Center for over 6 years before transitioning into private practice in Spring 2021. I am a fully Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of North Carolina and a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist. In my free time I love baking, gardening, art-making, connecting with friends and family, the occasional Netflix binge, and hiking with my dog, Margo. <image:title>Fees and Policies - Insurance</image:title>
<image:caption>I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna health insurance plans. I am a Clear Pricing Project provider with the NC State Health Plan. I also accept self-pay clients. If you do not plan to use insurance, you are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate for services under the No Surprises Act. If you would like to bill your insurance but I am not “in-network” with your plan, upon request I can provide you with an out-of-network “superbill” statement that you can submit to your health insurance company to request reimbursement. Often, insurance companies can provide more information about a specific plan to the member (you) than to the provider (me.) Therefore, if you plan to utilize your insurance, you are responsible for contacting your insurer directly before our first appointment to learn exactly what services your plan covers, to confirm that I am “in-network” for your specific plan, and to inquire about copays, deductibles, and any other questions you may have. I make no guarantees regarding reimbursement from your insurance plan and you are ultimately responsible for payment in full. Click here for a list of suggested questions to ask your insurance provider.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fees and Policies - Cancellations and Missed Appointments</image:title>
<image:caption>Consistent attendance and communication are essential to our work together, and I encourage you to make every effort to attend your sessions as scheduled. If you find you must cancel an appointment please do so at least 24 hours in advance, as that time is being held specifically for you. No-shows and sessions canceled less than 24 hours in advance of the appointment time will be charged a cancellation fee of $55, which will be billed to the client’s credit card on file. Cancellation fees are not reimbursable by insurance and are the responsibility of the client.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fees and Policies - Reaching Me Outside of Session</image:title>
<image:caption>I work hard to provide ethical care to my clients while also maintaining boundaries that preserve both the professional nature of the client-counselor relationship and my own self-care. As such, there are a few important things for my potential clients to know: I do not accept friend/follow/message requests from current or former clients on social media (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) I am generally not available after 5pm or on weekends, and do not provide crisis services unless an established client is having an acute emergency. (If you’re experiencing a psychological emergency, please refer to the options listed on the bottom of this page.) I provide secure options for established clients to communicate with me when needed for logistical matters such as scheduling, billing questions, etc. While I do my best to respond to messages within the next business day, there may be rare exceptions. In order to stay energized for my clients and for myself, I take time off from work at various times throughout the year, during which I am often out of the area and unreachable for 1-2 weeks at a time.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Fees and Policies - Service Limitations</image:title>
<image:caption>I do not write letters in support of Emotional Support Animals. I do not provide forensic services such as custody evaluations, assessments recommended by court, probation, ability to stand trial, etc. Should your presenting concern(s) be or become out of my scope of practice, I will do my best to provide alternative referral options in order to help you receive the care you need and deserve.</image:caption>

<image:title>Counseling FAQs - “What can I expect from the first session?”</image:title>
<image:caption>In our initial session, my focus will be on learning as much as I can about you and your reasons for seeking counseling. I will ask questions while also making plenty of space for you to share what feels most important to you. We will talk about your goals and discuss some possible ways that we may work together to help move you closer to them. We will also take some time to review my policies, your responsibilities as a client, and to address any questions or concerns you may have. The initial session- and perhaps a few sessions beyond that- will also be used to confirm that we are a good fit for one another.</image:caption>
    </image:image>

<image:title>Counseling FAQs - “What do subsequent sessions look like?”</image:title>
<image:caption>Moving forward, counseling will be shaped around both what you bring to the sessions- those things that you feel would be most meaningful for us to discuss together- and the goals you set when you started counseling. Depending on your needs, some sessions may feel conversational while others will feel more structured. I aim to help you build insight into the thoughts, feelings, behaviors, relationships, and experiences that shape your life, and to support you in identifying what’s working and what may need to change. We’ll explore the internal and external resources you have available to you; often, there are more than you may realize! Counseling is rarely a “quick fix,” and may not always feel easy or comfortable. I believe that some emotional discomfort can often mean really important growth is happening, but you will also never be forced to talk about or do anything you’re not ready to. Ultimately, we will collaborate to create a space that feels safe enough to talk about the hard stuff in life, while also shining plenty of light on what helps you feel positive and hopeful. In addition to traditional “talk therapy,” some clients may find that expressive arts therapy can also be helpful in their counseling work.</image:caption>

<image:title>Counseling FAQs - “How long will it take to feel better?”</image:title>
<image:caption>I cannot make any guarantees about the timing or extent of therapeutic outcomes. However, I find that clients who are open-minded, willing to do a little “homework” between sessions by applying insights and strategies we discuss, and who attend appointments consistently tend to experience the most benefit from counseling.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Please carefully review my Fees and Policies page for information about insurance, fees, policies, and more. <image:title>Counseling FAQs - “How do I get started?”</image:title>
<image:caption>Please take your time exploring my website to learn about me, my services, and my policies and fees. When you’re ready, contact me to schedule a free 20-minute phone consultation, during which I’ll ask a bit about you and your mental health goals, and share some information about myself and my practice. This call is not a counseling session, but rather a chance for us to make sure we’re a good fit for each other. I want you to get what you need and deserve from counseling, so if we are not the right fit or my schedule is full I will make an effort to provide referral information. Please note that I do not provide Emotional Support Animal assessments/letters.</image:caption>

<image:title>Expressive Arts Therapy - You do not have to be “good at” art in or have formal artistic training in order to engage in expressive arts.</image:title>
<image:caption>Art-making is for everyone. Yes, even you. Even if you’ve been told you’re “not creative” or think you’re “bad at” painting. Even if you haven’t touched so much as a crayon in decades or the thought of writing a poem makes you squirm. All you need is an open mind and willingness to try. Art-making is for everyone.</image:caption>

<image:title>Expressive Arts Therapy - Expressive arts therapy is not about a therapist judging, analyzing, or interpreting your art for you.</image:title>
<image:caption>It’s about what your creations mean to you. Sometimes your art’s meaning may be profound and clear as day to you; at other times it may be confusing, may evolve over time, or may seem downright absent. All of that is completely okay, because it’s yours. My job as an expressive arts therapist is to help you approach art-making with openness, curiosity, non-judgment, and perhaps even playfulness. You may just find that you start to bring these qualities into other areas of your life, as well.</image:caption>

<image:title>Expressive Arts Therapy - Expressive arts therapy is not about ending up with a product that is “pretty” or “good.”</image:title>
<image:caption>It’s about the process of creating. The thoughts, feelings, and sensations we experience as we engage in art-making can be inherently therapeutic. Whether the end result is something you want to keep forever or something you want to toss in the trash, you can gain a lot by simply paying attention to how it feels to make it and what your art work has to say.</image:caption>
